Default title/armor transfer to GW2

I was just wondering, for character titles or armor to be transfered to GW2, would the same character name be required to be created in GW2?

For example, if "PvE Bob" had a set of FoW armor and Grand Master Cartographer, would the player need to name his character "PvP Bob" in GW2 to be able to transfer over the title and armor? Or will "PvE Bob Two" be able to inherit them?

I ask this because I wish to change my character names, but at the same time, I want to still be able to keep my character titles and armor.

Bluntly put, No,

Ok so that may not satisfy your thirst for knowledge so I shall elaborate. No items will be transferable from guild wars 1 to guild wars 2. What will be transferable is recognition of your guild wars 1 character. The goals you obtained will allow your character in guild wars 2 to access special ingame items (unknown what they are at the minute). You wont have to keep the same character name, just link the accounts.

Dont worry though, its at least 2 years away yet, where do you picture yourself in two years?

And now its time to save some forum user the time and tell you to use the search button, there are plenty of threads on this. Did that sound angry, I hope not.

All that stuff will probably be linked to character names, but we won't know for sure until GW:EN is released and people have gotten their monuments built.

its hard to say at all right now untill GWEN comes out, none of the sources have been clear enough as to what exactly can be transferd some articles make it sound as if some of your items can be taken over, while others make it look like you ony unlock new items made for GW2.

so its just wait and see at this time. unless i missed a new article (which i may have) its not as clear as qazwersder makes it sound

Yeah, too early to speculate. They only mention that you can show your achievements via the Hall of Monuments, so we'll have to see what that is.

I kinda hope you'll be able to effectively bring your current character over to GW2. Perhaps the records will allow your character to inherit the items, making it able to "recreate" your original character.

Here's all the information we have so far... decide what will and won't be transferred for yourselves... or, wait and see?

Guild Wars: Eye of the North is the fourth purchasable installment in the original Guild Wars game. It is intended to tie the Guild Wars storyline with that of Guild Wars 2. Instead of using a campaign format used by Guild Wars Factions and Guild Wars Nightfall, Eye of the North will be a traditional expansion on any of the existing campaigns, rather than a standalone game. Players will not be able to create new characters, there will be no additional professions and there will be no tutorial missions. Eye of the North will be on sale during the Third Quarter of 2007. The setting for the campaign is in part subterranean and spread through the continents which have already been introduced by other campaigns. Players will be able to explore the homeland of the Charr, and meet the Asurans and Norns, new races introduced in the expansion.

Features

Eye of the North will not include any new professions. James Phinney has stated that Eye of the North will involve character development beyond level 20, however Gaile Gray has clarified that this extended character development will not increase the actual level cap.

The expansion will introduce:

* 40 new armor sets
* 100 new profession-specific skills
* 50 new PvE only skills
* 10 new heroes
* The Hall of Monuments, a place which will allow you to obtain unique titles, companions, armors and miniatures in Guild Wars 2 based on your achievements in the original Guild Wars. The Hall of Monuments will not support the transfer of items, characters or gold.

The PvE journey in the expansion will take the player through "acts":

* Act 1: Covers 18 underground tunnels to aid the Dwarves in their struggle against a "fiery Destroyer". This will later lead you to the aforementioned Asurans and Norns.
* Act 2: Three story arcs, which can be done in any order; exploring the Norns in the Far Shiverpeaks, the Charr homeland north of Ascalon, and defending the Asura on the Tarnished Coast against the Destroyer.
* Act 3: The battle against the Great Destroyer.

The following regions have been named:

* Depths of Tyria
* Far Shiverpeaks
* Tarnished Coast

Other useful info:

* Collectors Edition for Eye of the North is possible, but not yet confirmed.
* Armor in Eye of the North will use the insignia system like Nightfall.
* New God realms in Eye of the North is possible, but not confirmed.
* There are no new character slots or professions.
* Auction house and marriage will not be implemented, but are possible for Guild Wars 2

Notes

* G4 has confirmed that Eye of the North includes Norn and Asura heroes.
* Although Eye of the North is currently the only Guild Wars expansion currently in production and there are no current plans for future expansions, it has been stated in interviews that the possibility of another expansion after Eye of the North has not been completely ruled out.
* GW:EN will not include any additional character slots. It is unknown at the present if the expansion will add an additional tab of Xunlai storage space, however.

General

Races

Guild Wars 2 will introduce playable races other than human. The four new playable races announced so far are:

* Sylvari
* Asuras
* Charr
* Norn

Different races will have different advantages and disadvantages, for example the Norn will be able to shapeshift into a half-bear half-human, with increased health and melee damage. It is presently not known what advantages other races will have.

Character development

There will be a single character system, a character will not have a type like at present. A single character can be used for any of the three types of game play; PvE, World PvP and Structured PvP.

The level cap of 20 will be raised, no maximum level has been given and it has been suggested that there may be no maximum. The exact implementation has not been announced and is the subject of speculation in the community as it is not clear how this will affect gameplay such as area design and game balance. There has been mention of a side-kick system when a higher level character will enhance a lower level companions abilities, although there are few concrete details available about this system.

The skill system will be modified. There will be fewer, less complex skills which may behave differently in different situations, such as if the character is jumping or is surrounded by monsters.

Marriages and auction houses may be implemented.

Controls

The control system is going to be significantly changed (in particular mouse movement in the form "click to move" will be removed from the game), however target locking will still function. Guild Wars 2 will introduce a Z-axis to the game which will allow characters to jump over obstacles. Actions which have characters interacting with the environment, such as sliding, climbing trees and swimming will also be introduced.

Pricing and continued support

The original Guild Wars will continue to be supported after release of Guild Wars 2. This will include continued holiday events and tournaments.

There will be no monthly fee associated with Guild Wars 2. Mike O'Brien has stated that expansions or mini-expansions are more likely than standalone campaigns, but a final decision hasn't been made yet.

The game will be on multiple servers or "worlds", however unlike region transfer in Guild Wars 1, transferring between "worlds" will be unrestricted.

PvE

Setting

The campaign will be set in Tyria two hundred and fifty years into the future from the original campaign.

Guild Wars 2 will still have instances, but also claims more advanced persistence. For example, this might include different quests becoming available depending on the outcome of a particular fight.

There will be changes to instancing system used. Persistent areas, similar to those traditionally used in other online multiplayer games, will be introduced to Guild Wars which may allow players to meet and interact while exploring. Guild Wars 2 will depart from a single monolithic storyline, instead using smaller story arcs - allowing the player more of a sandbox environment to play in.

Characters

Characters from the original Guild Wars campaign will not be migrated to play in Guild Wars 2. Some of the items and titles will be available to players of Guild Wars 2 through a Hall of Monuments created as part of Guild Wars Eye of the North.

The professions are being designed so that they are all viable for both solo and group play.

Companions

The system of companions and allies is being reworked. Companions will have customisability similar to Heroes. Players will be allowed to bring a single companion with them, who will not take up a party slot. When a player chooses not to bring a companion, their character will instead be buffed so that they will not be disadvantaged by not bringing a companion.

PvP

There will be two types of PvP available in Guild Wars 2; World PvP and Structured PvP.

World PvP

World PvP will allow you to play characters of any level, using the skills that you have in your possession at that particular time. It is intended to be a more relaxed bridging point between PvE and structured PvP. It will be on a larger scale than the original Guild Wars PvP with large battles which could take place over a long period with people coming and going. Each battle will have a number of different objectives which can be met such as taking guard towers or defending choke points or joining a larger battle to take a castle. Battles will take place in the Mists. According to the Gamespy interview, there will be 4 factions players can belong to fighting against each other, as well as a 5th faction representing a common enemy. Whether players can switch allegiance is currently unknown, but likely.

Structured PvP

Structured PvP is similar to today's GvG. It will allow you to enter the game at maximum level with all skills, races, items and classes automatically unlocked.
Notes

* On March 27th Gaile Gray said that Guild Wars 2 will have Holiday events too.
